About the Artist
 |
Sally has been involved with the arts
whether designing, creating and appreciating since childhood. She
received her first bachelors degree in fine art, then continued on
to complete a second bachelors degree in art history, both at
California State University, Stanislaus. Thereafter, she worked as a
graphic designer for several years. In 1997 she completed a graduate
program in Museum Studies at Tufts University in Boston, then
entered the museum and gallery fields.
Sally’s interest in mosaics began during a trip to Europe where she
became intrigue and inspired by this age-old craft, after viewing
many spectacular mosaics throughout Italy. Having a love for the
decorative arts as well as fine art Sally started her own ventures
in mosaics and concentrates on bringing the art of mosaics into
today’s lifestyle. Her mosaics range from tables to decorative tiles
to walling hangings and garden elements.
Sally’s current mosaic works explore patterning using traditional
mosaic materials and methods. Many of her mosaics are created with a
traditional material called smalti (Italian glass), which has been
used in the crafting of mosaics for hundreds of years. Using these
pieces of tesserae she creates painterly images that intertwine to
produce patterns emphasizing movement and says she, “enjoy the
textural building process of using these small dimensional bits of
color to create larger forms.” Many of her current mosaic designs
reflect the colors, forms and images surrounding her home on the
California, Monterey Peninsula. |
